Massage Etiquette 101

I love giving and receiving massage! In my business I rely on word of mouth. Referrals are my #1 reason for the success of my practice. I try and look at things from my clients point of view. I want each and everyone to have the very best experience. For healing and for balance.

Below are some suggestions that we can all remain aware of that the interaction is a give and take. Your interaction influences the experience your therapist has with you and may or may not affect their perfomeance. Also there maybe others in the facility that are affected by your behavior. So let’s keep an open mind and appreciation for the over all experience and do our best to see that everyones space and privacy is respected.

  1. If you are in a place where there are other sessions, please be aware of the noise and voice levels. Not everyone wants to listen to you or know your business.

  2. If you arrive early try and remain patient until your therapist is ready for you. Waiting outside the door tapping your foot or looking annoyed is rude. If you become frustrated and feel your therapist is starting late or ending to early please have a conversation in private with them. It will go along way to grow the relationship with your therapist and have your voice heard.

  3. If you would like more time on the front or back end of your massage to exchange pleasantries, let your therapist know ahead of time. Although this is a healing profession it is also the livelihood of the therapist and time is money.

  4. If you need to cancel or reschedule please consider doing so asap. The therapist may or may not charge you based on their policy but it is common courtesy to allow that spot to be filled for someone who truly needs to be seen.

  5. Always practice good hygiene before your appt. Your therapist will appreciate you greatly and your will feel the difference in the way they connect with you.

  6. Silence your mobile devises. It is distracting and rude to have annoying noises break the zen of the moment for everyone in ear shot.

  7. Consider practicing silence. Your therapist loves to hear how you're doing and what’s on your heart. But it may also be a distraction from concentrating on their technique and to the feedback they are receiving from your body.

  8. If you're feeling unwell, like you're coming down with something, reschedule. We live in times where you never can be to sure exactly what we contract. So when in doubt stay home. Stay safe.

  9. New clients, Read the instructions before arriving. Your therapist typically tries to make the experience easy for everyone. Knowing what to expect upon arrival can make the process flow smoother.

  10. Provide feedback. If your therapist asks or sends a prompt for feedback do your best to provide appropriate specific details. Your therapist will appreciate it and it will make a difference in the growth of the practice.

Above all, Relax and Enjoy! You deserve to be here.
